Rental Car Coverage – Should I buy the Insurance?

Rental Car Coverage

Whether to purchase the rental car coverage is a question we often get.  It’s important to consider a few things when deciding on whether to purchase the rental car insurance since these waivers are often costly.

Your first decision would be whether the extra cost is reasonable considering the risk for uninsured loss should something happen to the vehicle while you are renting it.  Most rental contracts make you responsible for any damage to the vehicle if you don’t have the damage waiver.

In most cases if you have the right Pennsylvania and Arizona auto insurance policy, you will not need to purchase the rental car insurance coverage. If you do not have auto insurance or don’t have the Comprehensive/Collison coverage , you probably want to get the rental car insurance.

If the car is damaged, you’ll also want to consider whether your personal auto policy would cover these damages.  When renting you will want to consider your liability limits on your auto policy to make sure it is sufficient to cover what may be the damage cost required by the rental company.

We recommend considering the factors of suffering damage to a rental car and make your best decision on whether to take the risk or inconvenience.  If you have questions about how the rental car insurance with affect your current auto policy, contact OHL Insurance & Financial Services with any questions.
